The J. Crist Gallery is a 3,300 square foot building located in downtown Boise. A high-walled courtyard initiates the visitor into another realm; protected from the everyday world just outside, the gallery space carefully controls daylight via canopies, light shelves, skylights and a cloud ceiling. The 18-foot interior walls are folded in geometric reiterations of the building and its site. The ordinary materials of concrete, stucco and plywood are carefully deployed to extraordinary effect.
